abstract

in this study, a method which is based on the integration of navier-stokes and continuity equations has been used to develop the governing equations. in these equations the coriolis acceleration and the effect of wind also have been considered. the main application of the model is to solve two dimensional problems with free surface in the plane. the offshore engineering projects and the hydrodynamic problems of lakes and estuaries can be mentioned as application examples of the model. the required data are the geometry of the medium, bed roughness coefficient, wind velocity and geographical coordinates of the medium. since the problem to be solved is basically unsteady, in addition to the boundary condition, initial conditions should also be given. several numerical tests have been performed to check the model and quite satisfactory results have been observed.

Mathematical Modeling of Two-dimensional Unsteady Flow in Growing Tumor

We investigate the problem of unsteady fluid flow in growing solid tumors. We develop a mathematical model for a growing tumor whose boundary is taken as a sphere, and the unsteady fluid flow within the tumor is assumed to be two dimensional with respect to the radial distance and the latitudinal angle in spherical coordinates. The expressions for the time, radial and latitudinal variations of ...

Prediction of Sediment Transport Capacity in Rivers Using Quasi Two-Dimensional Mathematical Model

Sediment rating curve is an essential factor for many river engineering subjects and computations such as dredging, design of storage dams, river intakes design and sand mining management. Although, this curve is established using simultaneous measurement of flow and sediment transport discharges, however, due to lack of reliable data during flood events, it has limited reliability in flood con...

Mathematical Model of Unsteady Groundwater Flow Through Aquifers and Calibration Via a Non-Linear Optimization Technique

In this study, the general partial differential equation of unsteady groundwater flow through non-homogeneous and anisotropic aquifer was solved by the fully implicit finite difference method with control volume approach. The calibration of permeability and storage coefficients as model parameters was performed by a transformation technique and application of Powell's non-linear optimization me...

Unsteady Numerical Investigations of Flow and Heat Transfer Characteristics of Nanofluids in a Confined Jet Using Two-Phase Mixture Model

The development of high-performance thermal systems has increased interest in heat transfer enhancement techniques. The application of additives to heat transfer liquids is one of the noticeable effort to enhance heat transfer. In this paper two-dimensional unsteady incompressible nanofluid flow in a confined jet at the laminar flow regime is numerically investigated. The Mixture model is consi...

two dimensional mathematical model of unsteady groundwater flow through non – homogeneous and anisotropic medium using the finite difference method, control volume approach

unsteady flow through non - homogeneous and anisotropic porous media can be modeled by a partial differential equation.' this-equation cannot be solved analytically. hence, numerical methods. such as the finite element and the finite difference methods might be employed. in this study a mathematical model has been developed using the fully implicit finite difference method with control vol...

Two Dimensional Mathematical Model of Tumor Angiogenesis: Coupling of Avascular Growth and Vascularization

Introduction As a tumor grows, the demand for oxygen and nutrients increases and it grows further if acquires the ability to induce angiogenesis. In this study, we aimed to present a two-dimensional continuous mathematical model for avascular tumor growth, coupled with a discrete model of angiogenesis. Materials and Methods In the avascular growth model, tumor is considered as a single mass, wh...
